Inventory Import:
If you plan on using the inventory features of ShowSim and already have a product database built on another scripting application, you can make the transition to ShowSim much easier by importing your existing database rather than creating it from scratch.  If your inventory database format is not supported, be sure to check with tech support to see if the format can be added.

Inventory imports can be initiated from either the File menu or from the Inventory Manager panel.  Starting an import will bring up the window shown below, which shows a list of supported formats.  Start by selecting the format for the database you will be importing, then specify a category name under which the inventory items will be stored.  If you wish to merge the items with an existing inventory group, you still have to import the data into a new group, then use the Inventory Manager to merge the new group with the desired existing group.

The Import File field is used to specify the file containing the data to be loaded.  The full path of the file location must be specified, so it is usually easier to use the Browse button to locate the file using a standard file navigator screen.

If the import operation is initiated from the File menu, then the Inventory Editor will open to show the new items after they have been imported.  When an import is initiated from the Inventory Manager, the manager will just show the new group in the group list.

Inventory Export:
Inventory data can be exported to a .CSV file (comma separated value), which is recommended for the purpose of backing up your critical data on a CD or other permanent offline storage media.  Inventory exports only support the ShowSim native format, which insures that all data will be saved with the ability to re-import into the original data at a later time.

Only one inventory group can be exported at a time, so you must specify which group you want to export using the list.  The Export File field is used to specify the file where the data will be stored.  The full path of the file location must be specified, so it is usually easier to use the Browse button to locate the file using a standard file navigator screen.
